Officers of the Morgantown Police Department responded to a report of shots fired near the 800 block of Grand Street at approximately 10:22 p.m. on November 27, 2017.  Officers interviewed witnesses that reported a dark colored vehicle in the area at the time of the shots.  Officers also received calls of a suspicious person in the neighborhood.

Officers found Chance Williams, 18 years of age of Morgantown, on Webster Avenue with what appeared to be blood on his pants. Williams appearance was consistent of that of someone who had been in a physical altercation.  Williams was uncooperative with the officers and provided false information about his identity.

While officers were engaged with Williams, a shooting victim was reported at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Officers responded to Ruby Memorial and found the vehicle the victim was driving with damage due to the apparent gunfire. The victim identified as Marquise Hicks 23 years of age of Morgantown. Hicks was treated for multiple gunshot wounds and is in stable condition.

While in processing and as officers were attempting to process Williams for gunshot residue testing, Williams attacked one of the officers, headbutting him in the face in an attempt to prevent being processed as well as attempting to destroy any evidence on his hands by grabbing disinfectant gel.

Willliams has been charged with Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Obstructing an Officer, Trespassing, Public Intoxication and Underage Consumption of Alcohol. Williams is pending arraignment.

The vehicle has been impounded and is pending processing by detectives. Detectives have obtained search warrants and continue the investigation. Additional charges are pending the result of the ongoing investigation.
