At approximately 7:36 p.m. on Sept. 12, the Morgantown Fire Department was dispatched to 11 Shaw Place for a residential home full of smoke.
Fire crews arrived to find smoke throughout the structure, and after a primary search, discovered the fire was in the basement. The officer in charge called for a 2nd alarm response. Crews quickly brought the fire under control in about 15 minutes.
Prior to fire department arrival, the homeowner was able rescue several cats from the building. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. Damage estimate to the home is approximately $60,000. Investigators from the Morgantown Fire Department believe the fire started in the basement and will return to the scene on Monday to conduct a further examination.
