News Release Logo v2

On Nov. 14, the Morgantown Police Department was awarded the “Community Traffic Safety Platinum Award” by the Automotive Association of America (AAA). This marks the 14th year in a row that the Department has received the award.

Officers representing law enforcement agencies from across the state attended the awards presentation held in Bridgeport, West Virginia. Law enforcement agencies within Monongalia County including the Star City Police Department, the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department, and the University Police Department were also recognized for their efforts regarding traffic safety.

“Receiving these awards goes to show the effort that the city, the Morgantown Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies in the area puts into making our roadways safer,” said Morgantown Police Chief Ed Preston.

The Platinum Award is the highest award given by AAA. It is representative of the numerous traffic safety measures the city has implemented, including the Governor’s Highway Safety Programs “Click It or Ticket” campaign, creating a Pedestrian Safety Board and Bicycle Board, hosting the ARIDE program, and DWI Enhanced Enforcement.
