At approximately 2:52 p.m., on Sept. 24, 2019, officers of the Morgantown Police Department found a motor vehicle crash that had just occurred near the Cobun Creek Bridge on South University Avenue.
The driver of the vehicle, Shannon BROWN, 19 years of age of Jacksonburg, West Virginia, was operating a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport headed southbound on South University Avenue. BROWN crossed over two (2) northbound lanes of traffic and entered a wooded area adjacent to the roadway and continued traveling north until the vehicle crashed into Cobun Creek. BROWN was able to get out of the vehicle on her own and was alert and talking to officers at the scene. BROWN was later transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
Currently the vehicle is completely submerged in Cobun Creek and recovery personnel are in the process of removing the vehicle from the area. Officers are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
No other vehicles or persons were involved in this incident. The case is still under investigation.
