The Morgantown Fire Department is hosting its annual Fire Prevention Puppet Show in the University High School Auditorium from Oct. 1 through Oct. 4. Showtimes are at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and one showing on Oct. 4 at 9:30 a.m.
Meant to educate local youth on the importance of fire prevention, the Morgantown Fire Department is preparing for this year’s Puppet Show theme: “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!”
“We have been doing the Fire Prevention Puppet Show for more than 20 years”, said Fire Prevention Officer Andy Dotson. “By using five or six fire prevention songs per event we hope to teach kids about the importance of knowing an escape route and a family meeting place in the event of a house fire.”
National Fire Prevention Week is formally held Oct. 6 through Oct. 12. Due to a scheduling conflict, the Puppet Show has been moved to the week before National Fire Prevention Week. This new schedule will allow Morgantown fire fighters to visit schools Oct. 7 through Oct. 11 and provide additional educational fire prevention materials to students.
Morgantown Fire Department is expecting a large turn out and is limiting capacity to 600 students per show. Registration is taken on a first come first serve basis. For reservations or questions contact Andy Dotson at adotson@morgantownwv.gov.
