On Oct 2., officers from the Morgantown Police Department will join community members in a relaxed, informal setting to build relationships, answer questions, and drink coffee.

The event is open to everyone and will take place at two locations. It begins at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at the University Avenue McDonald’s, located at 2932 University Avenue and at the Sabraton McDonald’s, located at 1820 Sturges Street. McDonald's will provide Coffee with a Cop attendees with a small cup of coffee - free of charge.

Coffee with a Cop events take place across the country. The events are meant to build trust between the police and the community.

A majority of contact made with officers are made during emergencies or stressful situations, which aren’t the most solid foundation to build relationships on. Coffee with a Cop aims to break these barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.

“Coffee with a Cop is a chance for direct information flow between us and the public,” said Morgantown Chief of Police Ed Preston. “It’s a great opportunity for us to get out and interact with the public, and for the public to ask questions or present issues while in a non-enforcement capacity. We look forward to seeing everyone.”

The event a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn about what the Police Department is doing in Morgantown neighborhoods
