MORGANTOWN, W.VA. – At approximately 4:43 p.m. on July 25, officers of the Morgantown Police Department responded to a reported death in a wooded area adjacent to Deckers Creek behind the 1900 block of Hunters Way in Sabraton. Officers arrived on scene and met with Fire and EMS personnel who directed the officers to the decedent.
The deceased has been identified as Dustin Heffner, 32 years of age of Fairmont. There are no additional updates at this time.
ORIGINAL: At approximately 4:43 p.m. on July 25, officers of the Morgantown Police Department responded to a reported death in a wooded area adjacent to Deckers Creek behind the 1900 block of Hunters Way in Sabraton. Officers arrived on scene and met with Fire and EMS personnel who directed the officers to the decedent.
Detectives of the Morgantown Police Department were summoned to the scene and began processing the area. Citizens who were in the area were questioned and officers were able to confirm that the decedent was last observed in the area alive within approximately two hours of being discovered.
Officers are still trying to confirm the identity of the decedent and notify any next of kin. Although there are no readily apparent signs of foul play, it is the policy of the Morgantown Police Department to treat all unattended deaths as homicide until proven otherwise.
The body was transported to the medical examiner’s office for examination and determination of a cause of death.
