The Morgantown CPA is a training program for citizens which focuses on the real world of law enforcement. As a student of the Morgantown CPA, participants will experience firsthand the operation of the Morgantown Police Department. They will learn how and why police officers do the things they do. Participants will also learn about MPD policies and procedures and how the courts and Constitution affect officer's decisions.
Applicants to the Morgantown CPA must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years of age and a resident of the City of Morgantown.
- Agree to a background check. Any conviction of a violent crime against persons (e.g. aggravated assault, rape, murder, sexual assault) or any conviction for a felony crime disqualifies you from being accepted into the Academy.
- Persons in the process of being hired by MPD may not attend the Academy.
Applications can be downloaded at morgantownwv.gov/police or picked up in person at the Morgantown Police Department located in the Public Safety Building at 300 Spruce Street. Applications must be submitted at the Morgantown Police Department, to First Sergeant Reyes, no later than April 26, 2019. Class size is limited to 8 participants.
