[ARCHIVED] Suspects Arrested for Auto Tampering

At approximately 2:53 a.m. on February 3, 2019, officers of the Morgantown Police Department responded to a report of possible suspects breaking into cars in the area of Webster Avenue.  Officers arrived on scene and found two male suspects walking in the middle of the street on Charleston Avenue. Charleston Avenue is in the same neighborhood and runs parallel to Webster Avenue.

When the officers approached the suspects, they were sweating profusely and attempted to provide false names to the officers. Following the initial investigation, officers found vehicles that were broken into and one of the suspects had identification badges that were not his.

As the investigation continued, officers were able to identify vehicles on Theresa Drive, Webster Avenue, Spencer Avenue, Bluegrass Village and Gleaser Place that were broken into by the two suspects. Most of the recovered stolen property was returned to the rightful owners, but a wallet and a number of other miscellaneous items were not. These items were seized and are secured at the Morgantown Police Department pending return to the rightful owners.

Officers also recovered marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia from the suspects at the time of arrest.

Joshua Hunter BRIGHT, 24 years of age of Morgantown was charged with possession of controlled substance marijuana and methamphetamine, concealing stolen property, and auto tampering.  BRIGHT is being held in the North Central Regional Jail pending arraignment.

Steven Henry HUGHES Jr., 27 years of age of Morgantown was charged with possession of controlled substances and is being held in the North Central Regional Jail pending arraignment.

Additional charges may be pending at a later date.
