[ARCHIVED] Morgantown Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire on Overdale Street

Morgantown Fire Department Patch

At 12:33 p.m. the Morgantown Fire Department was notified of a reported structure fire near the intersection of Overdale Street and Arlington Avenue, in the Greenmont neighborhood. Upon arrival, firefighters were presented with a heavy volume of smoke issuing from the vacant, three-story wood frame building located at 201 Overdale St. Further investigation revealed a fire on the second floor of the structure, with extension into the third floor and cockloft area. Extinguishing the blaze was hampered by the cold weather and condition of the building.

The building is owned by the Jonas Corporation. Given the cold temperatures and the size of the building, off-duty fire crews were called in to assist in battling the blaze. The building is considered a total loss, with damages estimated at $75,000. Investigation of the fire is being handled by the Fire Marshal’s Division of the Morgantown Fire Department.
