At approximately 8:16 p.m. on December 10, 2018, officers of the Morgantown Police Department responded to a refusal to leave at Ruby Hospital, located at 82 Stadium Drive. Upon arrival officers were advised that there was a person seated in the emergency room waiting area that had been discharged from the hospital but was refusing to leave.
Officers made contact with the suspect, who was then identified as Wilbert William Vaughn III, a 45-year-old male, residing at 1110 University Ave. After advising Vaughn that he needed to leave, officers attempted to issue a written warning to him for trespassing.
Vaughn became very upset, pulled out a pocket knife, pointed it at the officers and said, “I’m not leaving.” A brief stand-off ensued, which resulted in Vaughn dropping the knife. Vaughn was placed under arrest and charged with attempted malicious assault. Vaughn was transported to the station where he was processed without incident. He is currently awaiting arraignment at the North Central Regional Jail.
