Investigators from the Morgantown Fire Department have completed an initial investigation of a small fire that occurred at Mountaineer Court Apartments located at 1993 Water Street.
At approximately 12:05 p.m., the Morgantown Fire Department was dispatched to a working fire in apartment 202. A maintenance worker heard smoke alarms, called 911, and was able to locate the apartment which had smoke and a small fire burning in the front bedroom. No one that lived in the apartment was home at the time of the fire. The fire department searched the apartment and found the sprinkler system had activated and extinguished the fire. Fire crews checked the adjacent apartments and removed smoke from the building.
Investigators believe the fire started on the bedroom floor amongst several battery rechargeable devices. They also believe the fire then spread to an inflatable mattress. The fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damages to apartment 202, and water damage to apartment 101, directly below.
