Morgantown Market Place

The Morgantown Market Place is a multi-functional, solar-paneled pavilion in downtown Morgantown.

Lot A

During the week, it is known as Lot A by the Morgantown Parking Authority, providing residents with permit parking during the day and metered parking at night.

Farmer's Market

On Saturday mornings, the Market Place becomes literally that when the Morgantown Farmers Market rings its bell at 8:30 a.m. to signal the start of the weekly market. See the schedule, sign up for the weekly eNewsletter, and see what vendors will be at the market this weekend.

Funding

Funding for the Morgantown Market Place was secured by Main Street Morgantown. Along with the City, it sought Federal Grants as well as Governor's Community Participation Grants from the State Government, and fundraised, offering donor plaques on a donor wall, featured at the forefront of the Market Place Pavilion. It continues to raise money for an outdoor Culinary Station, which will feature programming at each Farmers Market, showcasing what can be done with the variety and array of produce, goods, and services that local farms, craftsmen, and business owners offer the greater Morgantown Area.

Solar Panels

In 2013, 12 solar panels were installed on the roof of the Market Place, providing the Morgantown Parking Authority with energy that it could add to the City's grid system, thereby powering homes and city facilities around Morgantown.

Car Charging Stations

The second part of those upgrades in 2013 included an electric car charging station. Currently, the charging station is operational, and you can charge there in the day with a permit, or in the evenings by using the lot's new parking meter after 6 p.m. It typically takes 3 hours to charge an electric car from depleted to full charge. The electricity costs are low for the city - a three-hour charge costs the city roughly $.90.
