Morgantown Fire Department Responds to First-Alarm Fire on Wall Street
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - At approximately 2 a.m. the Morgantown Fire Department responded to a 1st alarm fire at CZS Apartments located at 75 Wall Street.
Dispatchers from MECCA 911 reported an occupant could hear a fire alarm in another apartment and could smell smoke. Morgantown firefighters arrived and forced entry into two apartments that were vacant and under renovation. A small fire behind a gas water heater was quickly extinguished and the incident was reported under control within 15 minutes.
Adjacent apartments were checked to ensure the fire did not spread. The building was ventilated to remove any remaining smoke. The fire caused an estimated damage of $5,000. There were no injuries to firefighters or building occupants. Fire investigators were called to the scene and determined a gas water heater malfunctioned causing the accidental fire.
