Morgantown Police Department Launches Annual Beard It Up Campaign
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Morgantown Police Department (MPD) has officially launched its annual Beard It Up Campaign, running from September 4 through December 31, 2025. The department has participated in the national Beard It Up Campaign for over five years, joining law enforcement agencies across the country in supporting this charitable initiative. The program allows officers to grow beards in support of a cause, with this year’s campaign led by Lieutenant Jason K. Ammons.
In a new twist for 2025, participants must donate $25 per month to take part. All proceeds will benefit The Cure Starts Now Foundation, which funds pediatric cancer research.
“Beard It Up is more than just a fun opportunity, it’s a chance for us to support a cause that’s making a real difference in the lives of children and by participating, we hope to increase awareness,” Ammons said. “We’re proud to stand behind The Cure Starts Now and encourage everyone to get involved.”
Morgantown Police Chief Eric Powell praised the department’s continued commitment to community-focused efforts.
“This campaign reflects the heart of our department, which includes service, compassion, and community,” Powell said. “I’m proud of our officers for embracing this opportunity to support pediatric cancer research.”
Deputy Chief Chris Ruehmer added a lighthearted note to the campaign’s visibility.
“If our officers look a little scruffy over the next few months, we want people to know it’s for an amazing cause,” Ruehmer said. “It’s another visible show of support for something extremely meaningful.”
