Nancy Love’s Estate Supports Metropolitan Theatre
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Nancy Elizabeth Love, born in Morgantown and a longtime resident of Masontown, West Virginia, is being remembered for her deep ties to the region through a generous donation to the historic Metropolitan Theatre.
Love passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the age of 87. Following her passing, a $75,000 contribution from her estate in memory of her mother Edith Catherine Howell Love, was made to support the Metropolitan Theatre. This donation will help with preservation of the historic theatre and fund ongoing capital improvement projects, such as updating the theatrical rigging system, ensuring the theatre remains a part of the Morgantown community for generations to come.
The Metropolitan Theatre, known as "West Virginia's most wonderful playhouse," has been a cultural landmark in downtown Morgantown since 1924, with a legacy spanning more than 100 years. The theatre is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Love, who worked as a teacher and counselor for Monongalia County Schools for 27 years and was a lifelong admirer of the arts, chose to include the Metropolitan Theatre in her estate in honor of her mother, Edith Catherine Howell Love, a lifelong resident of Morgantown who passed away on October 25, 1999. Both Nancy and her mother were dedicated supporters of arts and literature.
“We are deeply honored and humbled by Nancy’s generosity in honoring her mother,” said Vincent Kitch, Arts and Cultural Development Director. “This gift speaks to the impact the Metropolitan Theatre has had on the lives of our community and will be a great help in our efforts to keep the theatre going strong.”
