Morgantown Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire on Montrose Ave.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - At approximately 7:05 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, the Morgantown Fire Department (MFD) responded to a structure fire on Montrose Avenue.

Within 4.5 minutes, Company 2, led by Lt. Ashley Jenkins, arrived on the scene to find smoke and flames rising from a two-story, single-family dwelling. Crews reported that all occupants had evacuated the building prior to the fire department's arrival.

Upon assessing the situation, Company 2 immediately initiated an interior attack on the fire. Incident Commander Captain Keith Summers reported that the fire was under control within 13 minutes of their arrival.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have originated within or near the furnace. The cause remains under investigation.

Captains Summers and Mark Thalman commended the dedication and performance of all responders involved in the incident.

"Our crews operated at the highest level throughout this event," said Captain Summers. "Under Lt. Jenkins' direction, the basement fire was quickly extinguished, and prior hydrant identification facilitated a reliable water supply, ensuring an efficient response."

MFD Captains confirmed that all companies worked collaboratively and effectively to manage the situation.

"We are extremely proud of their performance and the quick actions taken to protect lives and property," added Captain Summers.
