Morgantown Fire Department Responds to Forest Ave. Fire
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - On Tuesday, November 12, the Morgantown Fire Department (MFD) responded to the area of Whitemore Park after receiving multiple calls reporting smoke in the area.
Upon arrival at the scene, units encountered an approximately two-acre ground fire at the end of Forest Avenue.
The incident commander called for an additional on-duty engine and ladder company and initiated a second alarm for off-duty firefighters. All on-duty personnel, including the MFD Fire Marshals division, were operating on scene while second-alarm firefighters responded to additional calls within the city.
Firefighters cut fire lines and deployed hose lines to contain the fire. Though the fire was under control within approximately 30 minutes, all on-duty personnel remained on-scene extinguishing “hot spots” until after 8:00 p.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage was reported to any surrounding structures.
The Morgantown Fire Department will provide more information as it becomes available.
