City of Morgantown Announces City Hall Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - At 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, the City of Morgantown will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of renovations to City Hall, located at 389 Spruce St.

Light refreshments will be provided. Tours of the renovated building will be ongoing until 6:45 p.m., followed by a City Council meeting at 7:00 p.m.

"This project is a culmination of years of planning and working together to make our City Hall an inviting, professional place for our customers and citizens," said City Manager Kim Haws. "We are thrilled to see its completion and celebrate the occasion."

Renovations to City Hall began in July of 2022 and were completed in April of 2024.

The building turns 100 years old in 2024. It was originally built in 1924, and once served as the City's Fire Station complete with a truck house and bunk rooms, a Police Department with men and women’s jails and a judges chamber, and housed many other City departments.

Renovations included return of the historic façade with large bay doors and restoration of original windows and woodworking, along with modernization of the space to meet today’s needs such as elevator upgrades, temperature conditioning, and allocation of office space.
