Morgantown Fire Department Responds to Kitchen Fire in Wiles Hill
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - At 3:32 p.m. on December 30, the Morgantown Fire Department (MFD) received a report of an automatic fire alarm activation at 435 Center St.
Meanwhile, a neighbor called 911 to report the alarm's activation. Upon further investigation, he told dispatchers that he smelled smoke and could hear "crackling."
MFD arrived shortly, and Engine 3 Lieutenant Ganoe forced open the locked door to the residence. Personnel found a burning waste basket in the kitchen, which was promptly extinguished.
There were no injuries to civilians or fire personnel, and there was minimal smoke and water damage to the residence.
Quick detection of the fire was made possible by multiple functional smoke detectors within the residence, along with MFD's rapid response time.
