IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to upcoming renovations at Morgantown City Hall all Morgantown City Council meetings will be held in Monongalia County Commission Chambers located on the second floor of the Monongalia County Building at 243 High Street.Morgantown City Council Regular Meeting Highlights - SETTING CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATES FOR 2023: City Council will review and approve its proposed meeting times for the 2023 calendar year.
- INCREASING FREE TRANSPORTATION OPPORTUNITIES TO HAZEL'S HOUSE OF HOPE: Council will review a sponsorship of $5,000 to Mountain Line to subsidize its Don Knotts Route 50 bus route which services Hazel's House of Hope. This sponsorship, in addition to sponsorships from other organizations, will allow individuals to ride this route for free without the need for a bus pass.
- RECEIVING AN UPDATE ON FIRE AND POLICE PENSIONS: The Finance Director will provide council with an annual report on Police and Fire Pensions for the previous fiscal year which ended June 30, 2022. The West Virginia Municipal Pensions Oversight Board requires municipalities to provide this annual report to its governing body. Once submitted, the City can request its share of the WV Surcharge Tax assessed on insurance from the State which amounts to $647,136 for Police and $587,680 for Fire.
- REVIEWING RECOMMENDED ADJUSTMENTS IN THE WARD BOUNDARIES: At the recommendation of the Chair of the Ward and Boundary Commission, council will consider approving a report from the Ward and Boundary Commission which recommends no adjustment be made in the ward boundary at this time. The Commission has determined that the registered voter and general population numbers remain within acceptable deviation percentages for the 2023 Municipal Election. The City Charter Section 7.05 (c) requires the Commission to file this report with council.
