Art at the Airport Program Marks One-Year Anniversary With New Exhibit
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – This month marks the one-year anniversary of the inaugural Art at the Airport exhibition.
The program began through a partnership between the City of Morgantown, Morgantown Art Association, and the Morgantown Municipal Airport to showcase local artists’ works in the airport terminal. Over the last year, there have been four exhibits featuring 23 different artists and more than 220 pieces of art displayed.
“I encourage everyone to get out and see it as there is something for everyone, said Becky Turton, one of the featured artists. “There are so many different mediums being used like watercolor, acrylics, oils, photography. It’s really a great place to find a gift for someone.”
The next exhibit will have around 20 different artists featured with approximately 60 different pieces of art on display. The artists were asked to choose some of their favorite and most successful pieces to display for this exhibits theme. The exhibit will be on display from July 18 until late September.
“I’ve had several people say they have seen my artwork at the airport which has made me a more confident artist,” said Turton. “For this exhibit, artists choice is always the most fun because its such a broad theme. But the pieces I chose for this exhibit are the ones that I thought would attract more than just a glance from passersby.”
Over the last year, the shows have become popular among residents as well as travelers. A little over a dozen pieces of various sizes, styles and prices have been sold.
The reception for the exhibit opening and one-year anniversary will take place on Thursday, July 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.
Exhibitors are all members of the Morgantown Art Association, a local organization for artists, art lovers and supporters of art. Membership is open to those 18 and older. Applications for membership will be available at the reception and can be also be found at the Art Association's Gallery in the Mountaineer Mall, or on-line at www.morgantownartassociation.com.
