For the meeting on December 21, 2021 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers. Morgantown City Council Regular Meeting Highlights:
- STREAMLINING TRAFFIC CONTROL PROCESSES AND IMPROVING SAFETY FOR BICYCLISTS
At the recommendation of the Engineering and Public Works Department, these proposed ordinances would amend Article 305, 311, 315 and 373 of the city's Traffic Code. The ordinances would remove the parades event permit and combine it into a special event permit. The ordinances would allow the City Manager to direct the placement and maintenance of traffic control signs, signals, and devices, create and approve special event permits. The City Manager would be required to notify council of any changes and council would have the ability to make changes if necessary. These ordinances would also formally codify the Healthy Street program. The ordinances also provide updates to traffic and safety rules for any person operating a bicycle. - AUTHORIZING REIMBURSEMENT FOR FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS FROM INFRASTRUCTURE BOND PROCEEDS
At the recommendation of the City Manager, this resolution would authorize the city to be reimbursed for expenses incurred for the design, acquisition, construction, and improvements to city facilities from proceeds of an upcoming infrastructure bond. The primary purpose for this resolution is to proceed with the purchase of a new elevator and related equipment for the Public Safety Building from Kone, Inc. in the amount of $336,780. The funding for this is included in the planned infrastructure bond, but the lead time for the elevator is nine months. This resolution allows the city to proceed with the purchase without having to wait for the bond to be issued.
