Committee of the Whole Meeting Highlights:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Committee of the Whole meetings of the Morgantown City Council are intended to provide an opportunity for the Council to receive information, ask questions, and identify policy options in an informal setting. No official action is taken at these meetings. Presentations:
- VISIT MOUNTAINEER COUNTRY TOURISM UPDATE
Visit Mountaineer Country CVB President and CEO Susan Riddle will provide council with an annual tourism update. - WVU STUDENT GOVERNMENT SAFETY WALK
Representatives from the West Virginia University Student Government Association will provide council with an overview of the safety walk which they coordinate every year. - HUMANS OF MORGANTOWN INITIATIVE
Representatives from the Martin Hall Agency will discuss their "Humans of Morgantown" initiative, which aims to combat stigmatism associated with the unsheltered population. West Virginia University Food Policy Director and Food Justice Lab member Justin Lohnes will discuss its proposed Right to Food Resolution, which would recognize the right to food of individuals as a basic human right that requires protection in order to ensure a free, democratic, and inclusive society. - UPDATES TO THE MORGANTOWN TRAFFIC CODE
City of Morgantown Staff Engineer Drew Gatlin will present to council proposed updates to the city's Traffic Code. The updates would be focused on traffic control, special street uses, and bicycles. Items for Discussion:
- RECOGNIZING THE RIGHT TO FOOD AS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT
Council will discuss a proposed resolution recognizing the right to food of individuals as a basic human right that requires protection in order to ensure a free, democratic, and inclusive society. - UPDATING THE CITY'S TRAFFIC CODE
Council will discuss proposed ordinances which would amend Article 305, 311, 315 and 373 of the city's Traffic Code. The ordinances would allow the City Manager to direct the placement and maintenance of traffic control signs, signals, and devices, create and approve special event permits, and designate any public right-of-way a Healthy Street. The ordinances also provide updates to traffic and safety rules for any person operating a bicycle to follow. - UPDATING THE RULES FOR CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS
Council will discuss a proposed update to its policy for conducting city council meetings. The update would add references to council's policy on conducting public meetings by electronic means.
