Morgantown City Council Regular Meeting Highlights:

- ELECTING MAYOR AND DEPUTY MAYOR FOR THE 2021-2022 TERM
The City Clerk will hold a vote to determine the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to serve the 2021-2022 term. City Council elects these roles each year at it's first regular meeting in July.
- CLARIFYING DEFINITIONS IN THE PLANNING AND ZONING CODE
At the recommendation of the Development Services Director, this
ordinance would clarify the existing definition of an accessory structure and would remove the existing setback requirement of 10 feet.
Second Reading.- LEASING SPACE AT THE FORMER WOODBURN SCHOOL
At the recommendation of the City Manager, these ordinances would authorize lease agreements between the city and the Shack Neighborhood House and Mountaineer Homeschoolers Hub for space at the former Woodburn School.
Second Reading. - AWARDING THE BID FOR THE DECKERS CREEK RAIL-TRAIL PAVING PROJECT
At the recommendation of the City Engineer,
this would award the Deckers Creek Rail-Trail Paving Project bid to Mountaineer Contractors, Inc. in the amount $110,412.14 with an alternate of $130,363.94. The alternate includes paving of an additional section of the Deckers Creek Rail-Trail.
- DISCUSSING HOW TO CONDUCT CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS
City Council will discuss if they would like to continue virtual meetings or if they would like to resume in person meetings. Morgantown City Council has met virtually since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March of 2020.
- DETERMINING HOW TO FILL A VACANCY ON CITY COUNCIL
City Council will set the procedure for filling the vacant First Ward City Council seat. According to the
City Charter, "any vacancy shall be filled by a majority vote of all the remaining members, who within thirty (30) days after the occurrence of the vacancy, shall appoint a qualified person to fill the vacancy. If the Council fails to do so within 30 days following the occurrence of the vacancy, the election authorities shall call a special election to fill the vacancy, to be held not sooner than 90 days and not later than 120 days following the occurrence of the vacancy".
