Morgantown Fire Department Responds to 2nd Alarm Fire at 385 Jerome Street
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - At approximately 9:30 p.m. on June 20, the Morgantown Fire Department was dispatched to a 2nd alarm structure fire at 385 Jerome Street. Upon arrival, fire crews determined that the structure is located at the end of Alcova Street, which is not within city limits.
Firefighters found flames and smoke showing from the roof of the one-story home. Initial operations were hampered by the steep terrain, and the closest fire hydrant was 1,600 feet away; which required supply hose from two fire engines. The construction features of the roof and several sub-structures made the fire difficult to bring under control. However, firefighters were able to clear the scene a little after midnight.
The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The State Fire Marshal will investigate the cause of the fire since the home is not within city limits.
