Morgantown City Council Regular Meeting Highlights:

Additionally, the public can submit written comments via email to the City Clerk at cwade@morgantownwv.gov. - CREATING A CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
At the recommendation of the Director for Arts & Cultural Development, this ordinance would create a Cultural Arts Commission which would assist, advise, promote, and make recommendations to the Director of Arts & Cultural Development, City Manager, and City Council on all arts and culture related matters. This would involve sunsetting the city's Metropolitan Theatre Commission and the History Museum Commission, and combining them into the Cultural Arts Commission.
- DISCUSSING THE FY 2021-2022 PROPOSED ANNUAL BUDGET
At the recommendation of the City Manager, City Council will consider approval of the Fiscal Year 2022 Annual Budget for the City of Morgantown. The total spending proposed in the 2021-2022 Budget is $38 million. This represents a 3.3 percent decrease in comparison to last year's budget and a 2.8 percent reduction from the previous year.
- INCREASING THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE TREE BOARD
At the recommendation of the Morgantown Tree Board, this ordinance would add an additional member to the Morgantown Tree Board. Specifically, it would require that a council member be appointed to the board.
- CHANGING MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS FOR THE HOUSING ADVISORY COMMISSION
At the recommendation of the Morgantown Housing Advisory Commission, this ordinance would allow for a college student living in Morgantown to a member of the board. Previously, the student representative had to be from the WVU Student Government. The ordinance would also allow for a member nominated from an organization promoting fair housing and a member who is a licensed residential home builder. - PLANNING FOR FUTURE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS
At the recommendation of the City Manager, City Council will consider approval of the 2021-2026 Capital Improvement Plan for the City of Morgantown. The plan calls for $86.25 million in capital improvement projects over the next five years.
- IMPROVING DOWNTOWN STREETSCAPES
This resolution would authorize the City Manager to authorize the City Manager to enter into an agreement to accept a $384,000 grant to construct a new ADA compliant sidewalk on Pleasant Street. A separate resolution would authorize the City Manager to enter into an agreement with WVDOH to accept a $773,609 grant to construct a new ADA compliant sidewalk on Walnut Street.
Calling All Third Ward Residents! Do you live in Third Ward? Do you want to make a difference in your community? City Council is seeking candidates to fill the vacant Third Ward council seat and serve the remainder of the term (expiring June 30, 2021). Council will accept applications for the vacancy until March 18. Based on the timeline laid out in the City Charter, council will interview applicants on March 23 and appoint the new member on March 30. Applicants must reside in the current Third Ward boundaries, not the updated Third Ward boundaries taking effect for the next term of City Council.
