The Metropolitan Theatre

The Metropolitan Theatre is a historic staple of Downtown Morgantown, located on High Street and constructed in 1924. Dubbed "The Most Beautiful Playhouse in West Virginia", there is a long impressive playbill that testifies to the history of the building. The Met offers a wide array of performances from popular musical acts and touring artists to local theater and dance productions. From family movies and entertainment to concerts and live performances, there is something for everyone to see at the Met!

Past events include appearances by Tanya Tucker, the Zac Brown Band, Crowder, and Dave Mason to shows ranging from vaudeville and musicals like Mama Mia, The Nutcracker, and The Lion King Jr.

Ruby Amphitheater

Ruby Amphitheater at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park is Morgantown, West Virginia’s premiere outdoor concert venue, nestled in the middle of historic downtown Morgantown and on the banks of the Monongahela River.

Ruby Amphitheater is a 1500+ seat venue that provides the Morgantown community and surrounding area quality events and entertainment options.

Morgantown History Museum

Experience over 200 years of Morgantown history at the Morgantown History Museum. The museums collections tell the history of Morgantown and how it has progressed through the years. The current collection period is pre-history to the present, including social, cultural, industrial and military artifacts, photographs, and information. Permanent exhibits include Don Knotts, a vintage printing shop, local glassware and pottery, and much more! Group tours are available upon request.

Shopping

High Street in downtown Morgantown is a great place to start your shopping experience while in the city. Home to several unique boutiques, restaurants, and bars, you can find just what you're looking for to bring home to a loved one - or keep as a memento for yourself!

Morgantown has several areas to shop in that are just a short drive from the city.

The Morgantown Mall provides ample opportunity to find just what you're looking for. Whether you need a new outfit, bite to eat, or want to catch a movie, this mall in Westover is where you can get it all!

The University Town Center, located in Granville, is home to several big name department stores, restaurants, a movie theater, hotels, and WVU Medicine facilities just to name a few. Visitors can access University Town Center from I-79 off of Coach Bill Stewart Exit 153. 

If you're looking for groceries or boutique shopping, visit Suncrest Towne Center just off of WV-705 minutes from downtown Morgantown.

Main Street Morgantown

Main Street Morgantown (MSM) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the continued revitalization of downtown Morgantown and the Historic Wharf District. Downtown Morgantown is an attractive, clean, safe center of commerce, government and education. 

Main Street Morgantown is a “grass-roots” organization which works primarily in the areas of historic preservation and economic development.

West Virginia University

Morgantown is often called the "University City" and it's no wonder why! WVU calls Morgantown it's home and the city is happy to host it. The university provides something to do year-round. Plan your visit around a WVU Football or soccer game in the fall, a Mountaineer Baseball game in the spring, or even catch some medal-winning Olympians on the WVU Rifle Team

If you're looking to take in a show, the WVU Creative Arts Center hosts visiting acts, University Arts Series, Concerts, and performances put on by students and the community.

There are hundreds of sporting events, educational conferences, students camps, and performances that you can take in while in the City of Morgantown provided by WVU.

West Virginia Black Bears - Minor League Baseball Team

The West Virginia Black Bears are a Minor League Baseball team that hosts home games at the Monongalia County Ballpark located just minutes from downtown Morgantown in University Town Center, Granville, West Virginia. The team is an affiliate of the PIttsburgh Pirates

Just a Short Drive from Morgantown...

If you're looking for more out of your trip to the city, there are several landmarks that are just a short drive from Morgantown. 

Head East to Deep Creek Lake and spend the day on the water, or even on the slopes if your visit is during the colder months. On your way East on I-68 you'll find the beautiful Coopers Rock State Forest where you can hike some of the most scenic trails in the state or take in a beautiful mountain top view of Cheat River at the Coopers Rock Overlook. If you're looking for even more adventure, head to Chestnut Ridge Park or West Virginia University ADVENTURE Zip-Line Canopy Tour

Head West of the city to find Mylan Park just off of Interstate 79, or Launch Pad Trampoline Park in Westover.

Ski Resorts WispCanaan Valley and Snowshoe Mountain Resort are all within driving distance of the city.

The City of Pittsburgh can be reached in less than two hours by following Interstate 79 North and don't forget to head to our neighbor to the south, West Virginia State Capitol Charleston, by starting out your drive on I-79 South and reaching your destination in less than three hours.
