- APPROVING BIDS FOR THE METROPOLITAN THEATRE
At the recommendation of the Director of Arts and Cultural Development, the first bid was awarded to Franklin Integrated Interiors in the amount of $32,450 to replace the current carpet at The Metropolitan Theatre. The funding for the replacement of the carpet is included in the capital budget. The second bid was awarded to City Neon in the amount of $48,131.72 for the replacement of the digital marquee at The Metropolitan Theatre. The funding for the marquee replacement comes from residual funds from the recent replacement of the theatre roof. Passed 7-0.- STREAMLINING TRAFFIC CONTROL PROCESSES AND IMPROVING BICYCLE SAFETY
At the recommendation of the Public Works and Engineering Department and the Morgantown Traffic Commission, these proposed ordinances which would amend Article 305, 311, 315 and 373 of the city's Traffic Code. The ordinances would remove the parades event permit and combine it into a special event permit. The ordinances would allow the City Manager to direct the placement and maintenance of traffic control signs, signals, and devices, create and approve special event permits. The City Manager would be required to notify council of any changes and council would have the ability to make changes if necessary. These ordinances would also formally codify the Healthy Street program. The ordinances also includes adoption of the stop as yield law and bringing city code in line with state code for the use of helmets when operating a bicycle, which is anyone under 15 is required to wear a helmet. Passed 7-0. First Reading.- APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF AN ELEVATOR FOR THE PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING
At the recommendation of the Director of Engineering and Public Works, this request authorized the city to forgo the competitive bidding process and purchase a new elevator and related equipment for the Public Safety Building from Kone, Inc. in the amount of $336,780. The elevator has reached the end of its useful life and is no long functioning. The funding for the project will be included in Municipal Bond projects. Passed 7-0.- APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF EQUIPMENT FOR THE MORGANTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT
At the recommendation of the Fire Chief, this request authorized the Morgantown Fire Department to purchase replacement bunker gear for 14 members of the department in the amount of $58,625 from the Houston Galveston Area Council. The funding for this is included in the capital budget. Passed 7-0.- RECOGNIZING THE RIGHT TO FOOD AS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT
This resolution recognizes the right to food of individuals as a basic human right that requires protection in order to ensure a free, democratic, and inclusive society. Passed 7-0.- APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF A NEW LADDER TRUCK FOR THE MORGANTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT
At the recommendation of the Fire Chief, this request authorized the Morgantown Fire Department to purchase a new Pierce Enforcer 100' AAT Ladder truck in the amount of $1,545,790 from the Houston Galveston Area Council. If payment is made within 15 days of signing the contract, the city could save $45,000, making the total $1,501,717. The funding for this is included in the capital budget. Passed 7-0.
