City of Morgantown Names New Fire Chief

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The City of Morgantown is honored to announce that Interim Fire Chief Eugene Deem will serve as the next Fire Chief of the Morgantown Fire Department. The hiring comes after the resignation of Chief Mark Caravasos in May 2021.

“I am honored to be the new Fire Chief of the Morgantown Fire Department,” said Deem. “I feel thankful to be able to serve the personnel of Morgantown. We will work hard to ensure that citizens and visitors are kept safe.”

Deem joined the Morgantown Fire Department in 1993 as a probationary firefighter. Since then, he has been a First Class Firefighter, Lieutenant, and Operations Captain. Before employment with the MFD, he worked in public service in Gilmer County. During that time, he received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Glenville State College.

“The department is in good hands with Eugene Deem,” said City Manager Kim Haws. “We are fortunate to have Eugene in this leadership position. He has an extensive background in fire management and civil service.”
