  • CELEBRATING HUMAN RIGHTS DAY AND PRESENTING AWARDS:
Mayor Ron Dulaney Jr. proclaimed Dec. 10, 2020 as Human Rights Day in Morgantown to coincide with International Human Rights Day. The proclamation was followed by the presentation of the annual Human Rights Day Awards by Morgantown Human Rights Commission Chair Jacob Powers. The winner of the 2020 Individual Award is Mavis Grant-Lilley. The winner of the 2020 Group/Organization Award is First Presbyterian Church.

  • RECOGNIZING CODE ENFORCEMENT DIRECTOR MIKE STONE:
Mayor Ron Dulaney Jr. presented long time city employee and Director of Code Enforcement Mike Stone with a proclamation in recognition of his more than 40 years of service to the City of Morgantown.

  • CONTINUING EMERGENCY PUBLIC HEALTH MEASURES:
This emergency ordinance continues public health measures put into place by city council in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These measures consist of: 1) Suspension of minimum parking requirements and temporary sign regulations; 2) Required closure of outbreak sites; 3) Mask requirements; 4) Suspension of regular inspections of rental housing units; 5) 25-person gathering limits indoors except for essential businesses; 6) Restrictions on public gatherings in residential units in certain areas of the city; and 7) Suspension of residential assembly permits.   • AUTHORIZING A NEW SIGNATORY FOR FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS:
This administrative resolution adds new City Manager A. Kim Haws as a signatory for financial and business transactions for the city. Passed 7-0.

  • APPOINTING A CITY REPRESENTATIVE TO THE MONONGALIA COUNTY DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY:
At approval of council, City Managers A. Kim Haws was appointed as the city representative to the Monongalia County Development Authority. Passed 7-0.

  • BEING PREPARED FOR INCLEMENT WINTER WEATHER:
At the recommendation of the City Manager, the bid award for the 2021 Salt bid was awarded to Laurel Aggregates in the amount of $86,150. Passed 7-0.

  • INCREASING GREENSPACE IN DOWNTOWN MORGANTOWN:
At the recommendation of the City Manager, the bid award for the construction of a pocket park at the Spruce Center was awarded to Parotta Paving in the amount of $115,000. The small park will be located between the Spruce Center and Spruce Street. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2021. Passed 7-0.

  • REPLACING AGING AND DETERIORATING EQUIPMENT
At the recommendation of the Public Works Director, the City Manager asked council to approve the purchase of a new GMC 5500 truck for use by the Public Works Department. The new truck would replace the 2006 GMC 5500 which was recently removed from the fleet due to its dangerous condition. Passed 7-0.
 
  • MUNICIPAL ELECTION SEASON BEGINS JANUARY 4TH
The City Clerk discussed preparations for the upcoming 2021 City of Morgantown Municipal Election on April 27, 2021 and updates to the election process due to COVID-19. In addition to electing city council members, voters in 2021 will also decide whether to extend council members terms from 2 years to 4 years. For more information on the 2021 election please visit morgantownwv.gov/elections. A brief timeline is below:
  • Jan. 4 to Feb. 8 - Candidate Filing Period
  • Jan. 4 to Apr. 20 - Absentee Voting Applications Accepted
  • Mar. 2 - Drawing for Ballot Positions
  • Apr. 6 - Voter Registration Deadline
  • Apr. 14 - 24 - Early Voting
  • Apr. 27 - Election Day

City Offices Holiday Hours
City administrative offices will be closed on the following days during the holiday season:

Dec. 23 - closed at noon for Christmas
Dec. 24 - closed for Christmas
Dec. 30 - closed at noon for New Years
Dec. 31 - closed for New Years
