The Morgantown Code Enforcement Department is supplying free smoke detectors for residents who are in need.
With the winter months approaching, residents are beginning to use their heating sources, which can lead to an increase in the likelihood of a fire occurring in the home. In order to combat this, the Code Enforcement Department is giving out smoke detectors to residents.
“We tend to see an increase in fires during the winter months, when people begin turning on their heat and using Christmas lights,” said Director of Code Enforcement, Mike Stone. “It is important to take proper precautions to avoid serious problems due to these fires.”
Those interested in obtaining a smoke detector must be home owners within the city limits of Morgantown, and do not have the ability to purchase one on their own.
If residents are unable or unsure how to install smoke detectors in their homes, Code Enforcement will assist in the installation. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact the Code Enforcement Department at 304-284-7514
