What does the City Council of Morgantown do?
Many of us have a broad to little understanding of what a city council is or does. Many want to know what happens behind the scenes and what the Council is doing for the people in this city. The city council handles all of the day-to-day management regarding the city organization. Petitioning, proclamation requests, special committees, approval of minutes, and more are handled by the Council. All of these things come together to make up the city’s holidays, requests, accommodations, businesses, and authorization of important projects.
What are city council meetings?
Did you know that city halls meeting is open to the public? The meetings are hosted at the Council Chambers at 7 pm on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month. They review proclamations and minutes in most regular council meetings. They also review new business or special committee reports. The agenda for the City Council meetings are posted and accessible beforehand. The city’s goal is to get people involved in what is going on in the community and work together to make Morgantown a positive place for everyone.
Who is on the city council?
The members of our city council include M. Joe Abu-Ghannam, Bill Kawecki, Ixya Vega, Jennifer Selin, Danielle Trumble, Dave Harshbarger, and Brian Butcher (photo). The City Council serves part-time and is elected on a non-partisan basis. Each councilmember represents a specific ward (or assigned area of the city). The election for the city council is held on the last Tuesday of April in every odd year. The council members who are elected serve a four-year term.
How can you stay updated?
There is information posted about the City Council on the City of Morgantown’s Website. The city hall hosts bimonthly meetings that are open to the public. There is also a broadcast available to watch from the comfort of your own home. Watch them live through YouTube, Channel 14, and the Streaming Media Archive broadcast.
